COUNSELLING SERVICES

Free Consult

Choosing a supportive counsellor requires ensuring there is a good fit between counsellor and client. This relationship is as essential to successful outcomes as the therapeutic method used by the counsellor. This 15-minute introductory consult by phone, online or in person is to share what you’re looking for to determine if we both agree that I can be of therapeutic assistance to you.

Your First Appointment

The first session is the beginning of our process of getting to know one another. It also requires intake paperwork, contact and consent forms, all of which requires additional time, even if much of it can be completed online prior to your session. Understanding the process of counselling is as important as the actual counselling, clarity about expectations and potential outcomes is essential.

Ongoing Counselling Sessions

The average length of treatment varies from a single one-hour session to weekly one-hour sessions over the course of several months.  Some people come to counselling with a very specific goal in mind.  They may be very aware of their personal issues, relational cycles etc. and find solutions very quickly.  Others may have a lifetime of severe trauma and effective therapy may continue weekly for up to a year or more.

The usual pattern is to begin counselling with weekly one-hour sessions and when desired change begins to occur, sessions are reduced to bi-weekly, then monthly and finally a few follow-up sessions may be scheduled.
